HP-41 module housings
I finally have models for the HP41 module housings at a point where I think they are usable (thanks to several readers of this form for help and feedback).

I have 3D modeled:
*Standard module housing (top/bottom/pull out handle)
*Double height module that fits in one side of the ports and allows taller electronics
*Two versions of extended module that fits next to a card reader in the lower left port, one version has flat bottom, the other version has a extension down to allow thicker electronics while being flat with the bottom of the 41 and adds about .06-.07" additional height for about 1.5" length.

The parts can be found at:
https://www.shapeways.com/shops/wants_beer

For the usual suspects, shoot me a PM if you want copies of the model files.

There was also a request for PIL-Clips, cable clips for the HP-IL system. The updated version (thanks Dave) can be found at:

Yay!! More colors!! Thanks Nate (and Dave)!

Too bad I just ordered my boring plain white ones 2 days ago... Ah well, I'll just have to cope with the shame.

Very cool!

Is there any solution for the connector of the module house too somewhere?

RE: HP-41 module housings
GREAT idea to recreate the PIL-Clips, I will order a bunch of those.
Along with "HP-75 Expansion Pod battery door & latches" and a couple of other items.
Thank you very much for creating these 3D printable replacement marvels.

I was originally thinking of using pogo pins soldered to a perf board or custom board, but I also lucked into some of the connectors. A couple of readers on this forum have already been playing around with the modules and may have a solution to the connectors.

They are used to clip onto HP-IL cables (on the ends of the cables in the slots on the strain relief on the connectors) to keep the cables organized. You'll find the 'width' of the 2 slots in the clips is just right to fit the 2 ends of HP-IL cables that plug into a 71B, 75C, HP-IL adapter for Series-80, etc.

This is really cool stuff, thanks for the work in designing them. I have used a few of the battery housings already with a rechargeable LiPo and AAA variations, and I do like the modules as well. Would be good to have some pointers for a connector solution.

Really useful stuff, thanks a lot!
I'd like to have module housings in different colors. That would allow to easily distinguish them (CLONIX is the red one, Double Xmem is the blue one, etc.)

Awesome stuff (love the idea of different colors for Clonix, DoubleXM, etc).

Now, what about 3D models for the actual HP-IL cable make and female parts so that one could make HP-IL cable replacements. Does that exist somewhere?

Cheers,

PeterP

Agreed, same here, I come that I did not thought about this, great idea!

Here: How to Make Your Own HP-IL Cables from Martin Hepperle.

Dave or Nate, since you already have online shops at shapeways, would it be possible to ask Martin if he would be willing to let you publish his design in one of your shop ?

I asked Martin that question years ago. At that time Martin did not give me permission to list his connector housings. I have them loaded on my shop (Not For Sale), so they're ready to go if that should change.

FYI, a pair in white would be $8.77, $12.77 in black, and I believe the pins are around $2.50 each.

Great news is that it exists, not so great news that this seems like a lot of work. I wonder if one could get a manufacturer from somewhere in Asia to make say 1000 cables @$5 a pair. They seem to go at prices between $15 and $25 on TOS still, which is just about the same as the cost of the DIY version based on the (amazingly detailed) descriptions and 3D printing.

Cheers,

PeterP

Martin's HP-IL connector housings are now up on Shapeways. I like the new "mh" logo. Smile

The contact pins can be found for less than a dollar each:

Thanks for adding these Dave.

I agree, the "mh" logos are clever and highly appropriate.

Why no colors other than black and white?

With that level of detail possible, would it be feasible to print the HP logo badges that are so frequently missing from Voyagers?
