Expression limits for three calcs, please
Hi all.

Perhaps I used the overly general search phrase in Google of "formula length limit Casio fx-115es" (without quotes) and used the same string for Sharp EL-W516X and TI-36X Pro which lead me down several unrelated paths. But, I would like to know what the maximum length a mathematical expression can be with each of the aforementioned calcs, please. Or, is the expression limit governed by open parentheses, pending operations or bytes?

Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

RE: Expression limits for three calcs, please
For the Casio it's in the User's Guide on page E-11:
Quote:Number of Input Characters (Bytes)

You can input up to 99 bytes of data for a single expression.
Basically, each key operation uses up one byte. A function that
requires two key operations to input (like (Shift), (sin), (sin^–1)) also uses
only one byte. Note, however, that when you are inputting functions
with Math format, each item you input uses up more than one
byte. For more information, see “Inputting with Math Format”

The limit is the size of the input buffer.

For the other calculators the limits are very likely to be similar.

Marcus has given you the answer for the Casio.
As he mentions, the answer is in the manual.

I would suggest you download the manual for all three calculators and a little reading will most likely turn up the answer your looking for. Reading the manuals is almost always preferable than just doing generic Google searches.

The answer may depend on whether you are comparing maximum characters allowed in an input line, or a function or maximum number of levels (ie. parenthesis allowed).

RE: Expression limits for three calcs, please
Hi Marcus, Bill (and the rest of our MoHPC group)

Buffer size was what I encountered with the Sharp. So, I kinda figgered as much for the particular expression I was entering. I also surmised that buffer limits would carry over to the other models. But, as with the long history of AOS limits I'm familiar with, I had to see if those pending/parentheses bottlenecks were also in place.

The above stated, thank Marcus & Bill for confirming my hunches.
