vision of the future, from 1969:

I think my first online service was Genie. It was text-only, DOS-based, and I had a 1200bps modem IIRC. The internet hardly existed, and sending email to someone with a different service was not easy. Next I had AOL, a GEOS GUI version that ran under DOS. The dial-up connections continued with faster and faster modems, as my boss gave me paid online service at home, long after the internet was up for business. I don't know how many years I've had DSL now. Other companies are trying to entice us to switch based on TV service (which we have absolutely no interest in) and being able to download a movie in a minute or some super-fast rate, which again I have no interest in. Any DSL is fast enough to watch YouTube videos.
