HP 27 - Rare These Days?
Hi - have looked through materials on this site and others regarding the rarity of various HP LED type calculators. I have an worker friend that's willing to sell a good, working condition HP 27 with original case, user manual, good working battery (rebuilt), etc.

The asking price is $250 and from what I've seen the HP 27s are rare these days. I've not followed this market but did use HP calculators back in my days as a young engineer - so I know they are well made.

Any input or advice about the asking price?

Thx.

RE: HP 27 - Rare These Days?
The Spice-series 27 was always kinda rare. I've been collecting HP calcs for 30 years and only seen a few of them.

As these old machines become less available, prices are very elastic. The asking price seems a little high although not outrageous to me, especially given that he's including the manual, a rebuilt battery pack, etc. I'd say go for it if you want it, since you're unlikely to see another-- at any price-- soon.

Yes, as David noted, this is probably the rarest of the Woodstock series, so not too many surface.

The price of $250 is reasonable and will likely sell quickly assuming condition is very good or better, good photos verify condition, etc.

I suggest you (or he) offer it here in the Classified Forum prior to listing on eBay or CL (by policy you can't do both) as there is a much more informed and reliable clientele here than the "buying public". This also assures (mostly) that it will continue having a life where it is well cared-for and valued, rather than marked-up 50-100% and resold into the 3rd world. Also, there is no cost to sell via the Classified Forum. Just my opinion.

Funny thing is I didn't even notice, I thought I was repeating what you wrote...

As a side note, the HP-27 was the first HP calculator to use NMOS IC's instead of PMOS.

I think it's the libido, but I don't remember. Let me check with my GF.

Since GF ≠ Wife, you probably can.

Old-HP Guy "Jzack999 ebay name", you shouldn't post your ebay items on this forum. That is what the "Classified" section is for.

I've deleted the post linking to the ebay auction. We don't allow that here -- not even in the classified section.

RE: HP 27 - Rare These Days?
My conversation with doc during a recent medical:

Doctor: You know, eye sight is the first thing to go when you age. Can you read the chart without your glasses?

ME: Pardon me?

Doctor: Well, okay eye sight is the second thing to go.

ME: What are we talking about?

Doctor: Okay eye sight is the third thing to go.

:-)

Similar case:

Me: Doctor, I have this terrible problem. I can't remember anything for more than a few minutes.

Doctor: How long have you had this problem?

Me: How long have I had what problem?
