Of course it is working, but I can't use it anymore.

Ityge H layout. I'm gonna check others, but this one was my preferred.

Sorry Jlouis, I misunderstood.

Yes, same here. It is working perfectly correctly, and I can barely use it...

I don't know what happened, but the skin I mentioned is now ok. The menu stays on, but I can live with that.

Nothing like a 42s in landscape...

Super thanks to Thomas!

Hmmmmm.....I bet I will see WP34S in landscape one day....HP42s is almost there....

One question....have you asked yourselves why the 15c was chosen to be brought back, with more than 20k signatures (including mine)? Why not the 42s, a little bit superior...?

Maybe ....just maybe..... I guess....just a little... because ... the....LANDSCAPE format?

Food for thought.....

cheers

ONLY because the same architecture was already available as 12C.
Nothing else. Not for the its landscape format.

I thought it was because the 15C won the survey.

"It is very clear that the HHC MMX respondents wanted the HP-15C at $75 to be the first legacy machine if HP were to undertake such a project."

That's kind of surprising. Does the 15C do something substantially better than the 42S, or were the answers biased by the availability of the 12C platform making it seem the more feasible option?

Massimo, Dave

Of course the architecture of the 12c helped to bring the 15c back, but I remember very well the site "bring back the HP15C".

People wanted the 15c, not because there was a platform ready for it.

Besides, They''ve put many reasons to bring it back. Format was one.

And if the 12c is a huge success till today, it is thanks to the classy, beautiful, usefull landscape format, plus a sturdy, well made, well designed calculator (as the 15c).
Much powerful financial (and scientifics) portrait calculators were made. None of them have survived (nor brought back).

You may not like it, and you have the right to do so and everybody will respect it, but you have to admit, with all due respect:

Landscape is a winner. Smile

But it's only my 2 cents

Cheers

JL

Yup, I well remember the campaign to bring back the 15C, and I was one of those that preordered the 15C LE as soon as Samson Cables started taking orders. I'm just surprised to see that it got so many more votes than the 42S in direct competition, and that the landscape orientation is apparently so much more compelling than the vastly expanded capabilities of the 42S.

But anyway, Swiss Micros is more or less bringing back the 42S in some form this summer, so best of both worlds!

You may like what you want, of course but, please, count how many new landscape models saw the light during the past 30 years... Zero, zilch, zip, nada, nothing.

A wonderful achievement for a winning format! :P

If that's what people wants...

These are my 0,02€

P.S. The 12C really is a huge success, but it is a unicum, with a market of its own.

What are you talking about?

I wrote new calculators, not replicas. And, besides, we are on an Hewlett Packard calculators forum, I was obviously referring to them.

I read somewhere on the internet that the HP-15C is THE MOST POPULAR scientific calculator of all time. I have my own theory as to why this it the case. Feel free to disagree with any of these points.

1. The HP-15C has ALL of its primary functions displayed on the keyboard where they are easy to find. (Not buried in menus). Referencing the manual is almost never required.
2. The HP-15C was one of the first, if not the first calculator to handle complex numbers as a data type allowing you to manipulate them like ordinary numbers. (+,-,X,/, Trig functions, and Log functions all work on complex numbers)
3. The HP-15C was one of the first calculators to handle matrix operations.
4. With user written programs, the HP-15C could solve almost any type of scientific problem. (Even those that were not already included in the calculator.)
5. With it's low power CMOS design, and LCD display the HP-15C (Entire Voyager line) has incredible battery life. (years of reliable dependable operation)
6. The rugged design, great tactile keyboard feel, and landscape layout made the entire voyager line very popular.
7. The HP-15C has the right mix (sweet spot) of complexity and ease of use.

I believe that for these reasons (and probably more that I didn't think of) the HP-15C became so popular in the realm of scientific calculators.

Sincerely, Barry
