RE: HHC 2016 location and date
As an aside and much more info to follow:

Seattle KSEA and Bellingham KBLI are both valid destinations for Vancouver CYVR. There is a bus shuttle system linking these airports with onboard wifi. Seattle to Vancouver is 1:40 and Bellingham to Vancouver is 1:00.

Now the hotel I am planning is the Best Western Pacific Inn and is situated 5 miles (approx) north of the Peace Arch border crossing adjacent to Blaine, Washington state. My house is across the street from the Hotel on the Canadian side (eh")

Passports are required unless you have a Nexus card as a frequent traveller. Passports, I was told, for USA Americans are around 170 USd. Remember, the dollar exchange while in Canada or purchasing within Canada, favours Americans, the Pound and the Euro. $1.00USd buys $1.25CDN; and that won't change until oil jumps back to 75$ plus a barrel. So if you are near the border and a large Canadian city (not many!) you might consider purchasing a plane ticket on a Canadian carrier, for example say Toronto or Hamilton to Vancouver versus Buffalo to Seattle.

As I said, I will have more info in the next couple of weeks as I get the leg work done.

Sadly for Canadians, today's exchange rate is $1 USD to 1.3352 CAD.

Ouch.

Since the subject is legwork, could that be "single footedly"?

Yes; Gene did a great job. He fell down only in forgetting to schedule a clear sky for the eclipse.

Once again, it's during term time so those who teach or whose partners teach find it very hard to justify.

This seems to be an on-going chicken-and-egg situation: the date is set by those who attend and, by definition, those who attend don't have a problem a term time date.

I don't see how it is any more difficult for teachers than others -- having been both a teacher and an other.

[Edit: corrected dates]

For those who aren't on the HHC email list, the date and place for HHC 2016 have been set. It will be in Fort Collins, CO on Sept 17-18, 2016.

See you there!

You may be missing me, because I'll be attending the meeting on the 17th and 18th. But if you don't leave to early, we still may see each other. Oh wait, I guess I'll arrive already on the 16th to have a pre-conference diner with the crowd, therefore I think I can prevent you from leaving to early Smile

Hi Joe...HHC 2016 site looks great! Nice job. A minor point on the webpage listing the check-in, it still lists Sep. 21st and next day as Sep. 22nd. I realize that the HHC 2016 site is still a "work-in-progress". I hope I can attend again this year.

Uh oh... If anybody other than Wlodek used the registration form on the HHC 2016 website today (2/29/2016), please try again because the form submission engine just told me that it would reject all submissions until I verified my email address. Sad So I did, and it should be working now.

The folks at Cambria Suites told me tonite that they do not have any more rooms with double queen beds -- at least for a Sept 15-19 stay. But they did extend the $109 room rate for the 15th. BTW - these rooms at this hotel are $224 per night via priceline.com and hotel.com.

For what it's worth, this year marks the 40th anniversary for the introduction of both the HP 9815A and 9825A desktop computers, developed just south of Ft. Collins in Loveland, Colorado.

Wow - Steve, this sounds like a great opportunity for you to give a presentation at HHC2016 on these beauties (if you can make it....pretty please?). I first used a 9825 as the CPU of an HP Medical pulmonary-function testing equipment suite when I worked at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (from '76 to '82). We had some older gear before that, but the department got this huge grant, and I got to choose the replacement equipment, so we bought HP. (We also got a 9845T at the same time for general use...what a dream!)

Just bought the airplane tickets and booked the last room (king size bed) available for 3 nights (16-19).

Hi Jake,

Thanks for the invite! I'll see if I can attend. Meanwhile, the Project Manager for the 9825A still lives in Ft. Collins so I've asked if he'd like to present. I'll let you know. He can talk non-stop forever so you'd best give me a likely amount of time you'd like for him to speak. I might also rustle up the Project Manager for the 9815A, if he's still around.

Wow, more incentive to get the tape drive back up and running on my 9825a chicklet machine.

Just booked for the 15 to 19th. Double queen rooms are booked, got a single king.

RE: HHC 2016 location and date
Felix Gross once again graciously volunteered to spearhead a group tour of NIST in Boulder, Colorado, on the day after HHC 2016, just as he has done very successfully at previous HHC's in Fort Collins.

There will only be room for 30 people on the tour (two groups of 15), so if you are sure that you'll attend HHC 2016 and would like to sign up for the NIST tour after the conference, please read all the related information here soon and sign up: http://hhuc.us/2016/tour.htm

Felix is currently travelling, so it may be a week or so before he replies to your emails to him. Don't worry; reservations will be handled on a first-come, first-served basis.

EDIT: Jim Burrus at NIST has informed us of the approximate tour schedule. Please see the tour page for details.
