RE: Advanced User's Reference - printed version
Just a question of curiosity:

Is it not economically possible to have hard-cover books made in such a way that the effect of a spiral-bound volume is achieved? I have plenty of books on my shelves that are hardbound and stay open easily.

I'm not sure yet. Maybe I'll use the same scheme as the hpcalc version. What do you think?

Sounds good to me. Many thanks for your time and your considerations, Dizzy!

My vote would be for the split Eric (hpcalc) had. Maybe with the extra benefit of an index in both halves as you suggested?

Cheers, Terje

RE: Advanced User's Reference - printed version
So after looking at the document, I've decided that a better split is to simply pull out chapter 3 -- the command reference -- for volume 2. This is about half of the manual by itself. The nice thing about this is it means that the (absolute) page numbers will coincide with relative section numbers in the second volume. I think I also prefer not having the appendices all over the place.

Also, I'm not sure there's much value in repeating the contents/index after all. It's a large chunk of pages to duplicate, and the command reference is in alphabetical order anyway, so it's easy enough to navigate without the contents or index.

Hi,

any news about the project? Did you decide on a split?

Regards,
Siegfried

The manuals have been printed and were dispatched (to me) today, so I'm hoping to receive them this week and send them out at the weekend or early next week.

I put the command reference (chapter 3) into volume two, and everything else into the first volume. I also inserted a chapter -> page number contents page which I think will be very useful.

Finally, I ordered a couple of extra copies, which are available to buy if anyone missed the boat. PM for details.

RE: Advanced User's Reference - printed version
I received the manuals today. They have come out very nicely indeed, although a bit thicker than I imagined (a single volume version would have been a beast, and not very practical). Anyway, I'm really happy with the results and I'm sure you'll all agree.

I will post them out next week, hopefully. I need to get some different "jiffy" bags as the ones I bought aren't going to be adequate.

Have you posted pics anywhere? I'm thinking about getting a local print shop to spiral bind a bunch of old scans and I'd like to see what you came up with.
