I am interested in attending this year's Allschwil meeting, learning more about how to register and more about the meeting logistics (recommended hotel, etc.).

The principal information information is here Oct 28/29

There is no recommended hotel, everybody is on his own with planning for the stay. Travel to Oberwil from Basel is easy with public transportation.

Günter
looking forward to see you at Smyrna

RE: Allschwil Meeting 2022
I have finally booked my flight for the Allschwil/Basel/Oberwil meeting.
Unfortunately, I will not be able to attend the HPCC meeting in London, the week before.
I will arrive at Basel on Thursday, Oct 27 (~13:00) and will be leaving Monday, Oct 31 (13:15).

Would you mind sharing your hotel (if already booked) in a DM or my email so we can stay in the same place? I will travel by car and can assist in the transfers where needed.

Not at all. Great!

The hotel has not been booked yet.
I was planing to do the booking yesterday but I was unable to do it and I still have some errand this morning.
I should be able to do the reservation later today.

The last times I went to STEINENSCHANZE STADTHOTEL.
It is a very small hotel, it sure looks like they converted an apartment building into a hotel.
Near old Basel, 5 minute walk to SBB and to the Oberwil tram line, I like it very much.

Some have booked at Hotel Basel.
https://www.hotel-basel.ch/en/home/

Once I have looked at Hotel Basel, I will decide which one I go and I will report back here.

Thanks for the info. I was actually looking for a hotel on the French side of the border, with much better prices than in Switzerland

My understanding is that we are at the same location as in 2018 meeting.

I understand. Since I do not have a car and do not want to depend on someone who has one, an hotel in Basel is a must.

After comparing prices and locations, I have made my reservation to the STEINENSCHANZE STADTHOTEL.
It is not the cheapest, nor the most expensive, but it is the most convenient for me.
I am in walking distance of SBB and from the tram line for Oberwil, bus stop just in front of the hotel, etc.

One small room with a shower and breakfast for four nights (checkin Thursday / checkout Monday)
STEINENSCHANZE STADTHOTEL → 702.40 CHF (~718 Euros, ~732 USD, ~940 CAD)

RE: Allschwil Meeting 2022
The Hotel Steinenschanze should have become the cantonal data center a little over 10 years ago. At that time it was an hour hotel and was bought by the city. At that time I planned the spatial planning and the interior design of the data center but unfortunately the project was then rejected by the parliament for further consideration (not rejected). The rejection by the parliament cost the then head his job and the project was not pursued any further. Instead of an own data center, two locations were rented (at three times the price of an in-house operation). In return, the government no longer had to go to the palrlament and could increase the running budget instead of the investment.
The old hotel was sold again and demolished and a new beautiful one was rebuilt.
This is the story of the building.

RE: Allschwil Meeting 2022
The planning is progressing. A historian of Basel will guide the partners through the cultural highlights. For the meeting this time we have rented the big hall from the church community. The program starts on Friday and Saturday at 10:30 in the morning and ends at 21:30 in the evening. From 18 o'clock there will be a dinner with the partners. The detailed program is still being worked out.
For those who come by public transport, we recommend a day ticket for 10 francs per day (about €10). With this you can travel around the region as you wish. A one-way ticket per direction costs 4.70. Matthias will soon post the registration list and announce the price for the meeting. Questions are always welcome.
Here is a list of recommended hotels in different price ranges.

RE: Allschwil Meeting 2022
I'm happy to have the Allschwil meeting back. As I retreated from new HP projects in the last two years, this meeting perhaps could revive some of my activity.

Happy to meet you again. Downloaded the registration form already.

Bernhard

That's one small step for a man - one giant leap for mankind.

I have just updated the list of participants. I am very much looking forward to the many familiar and also new faces and the submitted presentations.
For all those who have not yet registered: Please do so in the next few days and not just before the meeting. We would like to adjust our planning / meals to an approximate number of participants.

RE: Allschwil Meeting 2022
Continuing with the tradition, are there any plans to have a a market plaza active during the meeting?

I for one will be bringing a few items in case there's interested buyers...

PS. Shameless plug to the list of available items:

Hello!

As much as I would like to attend and register early to finalise my participation, the nature of my occupation makes it impossible to plan anything ahead for more than two or three days (ask my wife...). A bit like with subatomic particles - one can not fix their position in space and time together and only determine probabilites :-)

As soon as I know for certain I will get in contact. It it is too late then I will have to try again next year ...
