The ones for the strap yes, but they do not pose any danger to the 71B and Aleksandar has put a protection over the metal clip inside the case, so no danger there either.

OK, ordered one, thanks!

RE: Modern case for HP 71b
How is the closure and opening mechanism and its cinematic?
a) the longer metal piece (longer than the hp75) has to slip into the small anchor system for closure: it makes necessary the bending of the leather? How is the bending? is a deformation expected over the years?
b) the pushing of the metal part is putting a load on the HP71B keyboard? or the spring in the metal part is quite low and the pushing plus slipping back is not high?

The latch works well and easily slips under the retaining bar, without stressing/stretching the handle.

Only low pressure is needed to push the latch button to release it, the case leather is stiff enough that it does not bend enough to affect the keyboard. Inside the case, the back of the metal latch is covered with material to prevent it touching/scratching the keyboard.

Regarding the handle retention rivets on the 2 inner sides, they are smooth and flush and do not interfere with the 71B. In the photo, they appear larger due to the shiny surface reflection.

This is a high-quality case, made of excellent materials and assembled with precision and care. I can comfortably recommend it to other 71B owners.

I'm currently using a TI-Nspire hard case, but it's quite big, and haven't really found THE one. Would love something I can throw into my backpack without worrying about the 71...

Here's a reasonable candidate. Not quite a perfect fit but attractive enough in a brown faux pebbled leather material.

It's the case for a Tecsun PL-880 shortwave radio. The 71B does rattle around a bit since it's thinner than the radio and not quite as tall. A half inch of foam beneath the calculator would eliminate the gap. There's a felt like inner layer with a protective cardboard insert between inner and outer layer material which keeps buttons from being pressed when the case is closed.

The pocket in the upper part of the case is perfect for reference cards. The carrying strap is a nice touch for pulling the case from storage. The case can be found separately on The Bay for about $11 and at a fair discount in modest quantity.

Not quite a match for a bespoke case, but not bad either!

Unfortunately its a Tescun case and not a Sangean case.

Just kidding, looks good!

Cheers
