" V. Calculations in plutonium chemistry Short algorithms for plutonium chemistry problems … a number of books on optimization have appeared … while some of them describe the sequential simplex algorithm, none of them makes the observation that this algorithm can be shortened to the point that it becomes a powerful tool for computing equipment as simple as the programmable pocket calculator … … Listed in Tables V1 and V2, respectively, are two and threevariable minimization routines abbreviated as described above. These routines may be used to solve a variety of chemistry problems by the method of proportional equations [5]. The routines are suitable for the HP67 or HP97 calculators manufactured by the Hewlett Packard Company … … Table V1 PROGRAM FOR MINIMIZING A TWOVARIABLE FUNCTION … … Table V2 PROGRAM FOR MINIMIZING A THREEVARIABLE FUNCTION … … Table V3 PROGRAM FOR DETERMINING … " BEST! How powerful is this ancient calculation tool, to think that the great discoveries of the brilliant researchers were made with pencil and paper, or at most a slide rule; I am referring to Dimitri Mendeleyev, Marie Curie, Antoine Lavoisier and John Dalton among many others. Thank you as always for your valuable contributions to the HP 67/97 library. Pedro
