[17BII] Olivier De Smet's android emulator app
hi all,

I was trying Olivier De Smet's android 17BII emulator app but I'm having some problems getting it to work, which I think is related to the ROM image I'm using.

I have other of Olivier's apps, and have successfully got them, and other, emulators working with downloaded ROM images.

I have a ROM image, but it seems to be the wrong size. Olivier's Pioneer web page says:

Code:
for go17bii a 98304 bytes file to be named hp17bii.rom

but the file I've downloaded is much smaller:

Code:
mbp2018 $ ls -l hp17bii.rom
-rw-r--r--@ 1 cmackay  staff  68672  6 Jun 13:06 hp17bii.rom
mbp2018 $ shasum hp17bii.rom
cffed8d3a0d3d9b4c2e00814fabf32bbb8fc03cb  hp17bii.rom

is the file I have in the wrong format, and is there any way I can convert it, or otherwise obtain it?

[I do already have a physical 17B & 17bII+, and a 17BII in the post, but I understand the manual DIY ROM image extraction method to be long-winded, so was hoping to avoid it]

any ideas, please?

thanks very much.

RE: [17BII] Olivier De Smet's android emulator app
Christoph Giesselink's FILETOOL set of utilities is made for doing exactly what you're asking about, converting between various ROM file formats. It's available here:

https://hp.giesselink.com/pcuti.htm

I'm not 100% sure this is the problem you have, but they're easy to use and it's simple to try it.

Also, I had problems getting Olivier's go27S emulator to work until I moved the ROM file from SD card storage to main RAM storage (the downloads folder works as well as the intended folder). BTW, that file is 64KB in size, so the 17BII ROM is likely the same size; yours seems to be a non-std size?

RE: [17BII] Olivier De Smet's android emulator app
I've used de Smet's 17BII app with the 64kb rom.

From LEWISCRC.TXT file, there are two different rom sizes for the HP-17BII:

64kb is for the English Version
96kb is for the International version.

I've never tried his emulator with the 96kb version.
But I do know it works with the 64kb.

The 64kb file should be 65,536 in size.
The 96kb file should be 98,304 in size.

thanks very much both.

I've now belatedly realised that the file I downloaded was in a different form, and I now know how to convert it Smile

thanks again.
