HA! I found out where marketing...
Got the idea for the colours on the Prime!

As you all know there was a bit of controversy while beta testing the Prime with respect to the low contrast colour selection on the keyboard.

I think the original colour scheme was unanimously turned down by the HHC group during the beta phase. Marketing went ahead with the colour scheme:

Well on a trip to Shanghai I discovered the inspirational source for the earlier version colour scheme on the Prime!

First though, a shot of the sunset on the way to Shanghai from Vancouver:

Now a shot of the night time view from the hotel. It feels like a scene from Blade Runner. You expect an air cab to sail past.

A view from the Bund across the river:

And finally the inspiration for the initial key colours for the Prime taken in the Shanghai terminal at gate 78 leaving for Vancouver:

Mabey I should have waited to post on April 1st!

Cheers all,

Geoff

Moderators, if you feel this is Prime content you can move it ;-)

Hmm, I'm more inclined to think that the colour scheme inspiration was of the top picture of yours;
Civil twilight blue and Sunset orange Smile

(Nice pics btw)

That would be the new scheme not the original!

There was a presentation at HHC2013 of some other colour schemes. All were variations on a similar theme and the washroom pictures hues were part of that.

Maybe the washroom colours are closer to the HP 48G series and the colours of the sunset for the second Prime series, as you rightly point out.

Amazing pictures. Thanks for sharing!

As for the colour schemes from Prime G1, I agree it's not the ideal, but I find it acceptable.

Cheers

Great picture!

It's 2019 already and we still don't have flying cars in the sky. Anyway, perhaps not a good idea.

Last year I finally read the book. It turns out the Portuguese translation (actually Brazilian-Portuguese) was pretty bad, so back in the day I stopped at the very first page. The original book was a joy to read.

Yes, still don't, but we will have very soon.

Electrical air cabs are already being tested. It's a matter of few years.

Cheers

As for Blade Runner, the director's cut killed the movie.

Agreed. Fortunately my box contains three versions, including the original one from 1982.

Your new calculator will last for 4 years and then die.

Nothing can kill Blade Runner, it's as immortal as it gets.

And the recent sequel, though not in the same level, is also astonishingly good. The beginning of the Las Vegas section, with the sound volume suitably cranked up, never fails to send shivers down my spine.
