TI-59 Magnetis Card difference
Hi,

I have a bunch of TI59 magnetic cards for programs that looks different from each other, one having arrows to indicated side number and other with no arrows and a darker colour.

Does anybody know the difference between them?

I searched everywhere and did not find anything.

The only difference I could find is that the one with arrows I could write and read and the other I could write, but not read.

Thanks in advance

JL

Perhaps a silly question but are the non-read cards you refer to the plastic only cards for with the plug in ROM's?

The dark ones that are shiny on the back are for the TI-58 which has no card reader. They're only to label the function keys for programs you enter manually.

No, they have a magnetic strip. I can record a program, the calculator shows 1 at the end.

No, these ones are from thicker paper. They don't pass on the card reader.

I will take a picture or look for one in internet.

Thanks anyway.

I am not an expert on TI at all here, but to me it seems that the cards on the left side was made for the SR-52 and the one on right side was made for the TI-59.

Nope, that's not it, Sylvain. :-)

The SR-52 cards look like this:

SR-52 showing cards

I think those are versions of the TI-59 cards, but I don't recall seeing them without the arrows.

Hello!

Yes, but these are pre-programmed cards (I have some of those). But what do blank SR-52 cards look like? I have yet to see one.

Max

NB: The ones with the arrows are definitely Ti-59.

?!? – the card in the picture looks different from both card types in the wallet.

May it be possible that this is some third-party stuff? In the Eighties I bought a pack of 120 cards for the HP-41. They looks similar, but not intentical to genuine HP cards: it looks like the blackmarkings have been printed over.

Yes Dieter, the cards in picture looks like white, and mine loois like the picture above.

I tend to agree with you about the cards without arrows is a third party and lower quality.

Sylvain, that may turn out to be the ONLY time I ever have that distinction. You are an incredible source of knowledge. :-)

Here's another picture. Top LEFT card is a blank SR-52 card. It is not a pre-recorded card.

That looks really different from Ti-59 Blank cards.

In the meantime I found some of the "mystery" sepia coloured blank cards from the photo above in one of my calculator heaps. They were in a card wallet that came with a Ti-58. So my guess is that they are not magnetic, but just plastic cards that you can use to remember which label you assigned to your programmed function.

Jlouis said that this is not the case:

However, I wonder if this "1" really is a sure sign of a correctly recorded card track. Maybe the calculator displays this although no data have been written.

The TI-59 experts here will know more.

Yes, the 1 indicates the card was written in bank 1.

I just recorded a program in bank 2, the result after the recording is 2.

Attached is a picture of two of my cards, with and without arrows.

Have you been successful to load back those programs into the calculator? I just eperimented with the arrowless card and it does not record anything. The one with the arrows works, so it is not the calculator.

No, when reading the calculator return a blinking 2 digits number, and acc the manual it is error reading.

RE: TI-59 Magnetis Card difference
The magnetic side of the two cards are different. One is darker than the other.

Jeez, I find nothing in the internet!

Never mind, I will only work with the arrow one.

The problem is that I am liking the TI-59. What's going on with me?

I think I need to see a doctor! Smile

RE: TI-59 Magnetis Card difference
Well, the manual says there are arrows in the card, which let me assume that or I have an aftermarket product or the card reader is fooling me indicating that the card was recorded.

Thank you very much to all of you that have helped me.

Cheers
