That's what the records say... Smile

And there I find I registered on Jan 2005... but I've been here since 1997.

However I wrote: "You've been around before though."

Nice to see you, John! Welcome back.

Unfortunately, the (fire)powerful Prime (battleship), latest offspring of the HP handheld family seems to be currently more an education tool than a ‘scientific instrument’ like the Classics, Voyagers, Pioneers etc.—But there's hope: The upcoming next-generation WP RPN number-cruncher, the 43S! And I hope, the honorable hardware designers will give him a genuine and solid finish.

If only I could sponsor this amazing project…

That's what it shows for me too, there must have been a reset in Jan 2005. I have posts going back to at least 2000.

That was around the time that I wrote the account system for that forum. Back in the old days before spam, trolling, sock puppets, etc. you just typed something into the name field - preferably something like you typed in the past. Most of the forums of the 90s were like that.

Shall we place a piggy bank on this forum?

Will buying the manuals help the project?

If not (or not nearly enough): I'm all for a call to fund.

Donating to Wikipedia has also become sort of normal...

BTW: Has HP never ever contacted you to bring this stupendous effort back into the fold?

...and Norm/Captain Zener, Valentin Albillo, Veli-Pekka Nousiainen, Michael Meyer, Luiz Vieira, Hrastprogrammer... etc etc

Luiz was the first (and only) "moderator" of the old forum. I put moderator in quotes because all a moderator could do in that forum was delete posts. Luiz was quite upset when the first spams appeared on the old wide-open forum so he seemed like a perfect fit for spam patrolling. He was a secret moderator because he didn't want to be "special". (And moderating in the old forum was kind of a hack.) But very soon after that he greatly reduced his frequency of visits and eventually emailed me an apology that he wasn't being much of a moderator since he wasn't even getting to the forum. I don't remember Norm posting for a long time. I think Hrastprogrammer has come and gone at various times in the past.

Karl sent me an email complaining about another prominent member of the forum a couple of years ago. I don't think I did anything about it as I didn't see an obvious rule violation - it seemed more like a couple of people who had rubbed each other the wrong way for some time and I couldn't really tell who was at "fault" in the time I was willing to use on it. It looks like he stopped posting after that. Hopefully with 3 moderators, we can collectively come up with a better idea of what to do in similar situations. Then again, sometimes there may be nothing you can do about things like that.
