(25) Calculs Planimetriques en Coordonnees
If French is a language you are versed in and have the time/desire to translate a collection of HP-25 programs from French to English, send me a PM. Anyone can start & contribute with a translation of the attached PDF of the target contents.

RE: (25) Calculs Planimetriques en Coordonnees
Used Google Translate for this one:
Quote:Raccordement parabolique entre 2 paraboles.

The suggestion made me smile:
Quote:Parabolic connection between 2 dishes.

However the 2nd suggestion is more likely what we want:
Quote:Parabolic connection between two parabolas.

We found the other one:
Quote:
  • Raccordement circulaire entre 1 droite and 1 circle.
    • R > 0 et \(\alpha\) < 200gr ou R < 0 et \(\alpha\) > 200gr
    • R < 0 et \(\alpha\) < 200gr ou R > 0 et \(\alpha\) > 200gr

And where are the programs?
Nice handwriting by the way.

Kind regards
Thomas

Quote:…And where are the programs?…

My intent is to translate the collection via collaboration with a mother tongue member rather than transliterate via brute force, hence the CONTENTS only posting. If the interest in the programs is pressing, an extant posting will proceed. I was hoping for a PM prior to further action.

I believe my reticence is well expressed in Thomas's reply, thanks for the confirmation.

I like this initiative for HP25 geometric software, looks very well done. Unfortunately, no numeric examples for the programs presented, this would help translation from French to English. I will file the collection. I wish you good luck and that a collaborator will soon appear. Pedro

RE: (25) Calculs Planimetriques en Coordonnees
Even if I understand each separate word because I’m French I’m not able to understand a whole sentence !
Sad

Tabulations de points en X, Y sur une droite sounds to me like a restaurant menu dish name.

RE: (25) Calculs Planimetriques en Coordonnees
With my high school French, I was able to figure most of it out (from the 1-14.pdf), though without the illustrations I would have been lost. I'm not familiar with French mathematical jargon, but guessed that "droite" is similar to the use of "Gerade" (noun) in German, meaning "straight line."

I can't for the life of me figure out what "gisement" is supposed to mean in this context, though. (Program 4, center of page.) The definitions I find in Wiktionary and elsewhere on-line don't seem to apply.

And I'd never seen the notation

Code:
1 | x
  | y

before. Again from context, it looks like it means "point 1."

I've never seen it used in this context (and I did 5 years of school in France!) but would guess it means "slope". A straight line (that is indeed what "une droite" is) can be defined by two points or by one point and a slope (or vector for that matter).

RE: (25) Calculs Planimetriques en Coordonnees
[Image: ende-1029b4df.png] translates "gisement" to German "die Seitenpeilung" and this in turn to English "relative bearing".

If you look at the code the difference of the coordinates of point 1 and 2 is transformed to polar coordinates.
Thus it's an angle, not a slope. But of course they are related.

French Wikipedia agrees: https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gisement_(navigation)
