Yup pier4r, I agree on every point. Of course we are simplifying things here.
As an Italian I find it somewhat difficult to read classical pieces of literature, let's say from Dante, and even when speaking to an Italian literature professor I can feel the difference between our vocabularies. But here we are talking in a much more general way, there's no need to know 30k words to be able to order a pizza or to read a calculator manual
