I compared enabled vs disabled. I don't see that it's modifying the HTML, at least not that I can see in Chrome's DOM Inspector.

The toolbar could be intercepting library calls (javascript, etc.) or altering the behavior of Chrome. I opened a support case and will probably stop using the toolbar as it's making changes I wasn't aware of.
