If you take into account the cost of the time of the professional performing the long calculation, you will increase battery life, but increase the total cost of operating the calculator, not to mention the user's perception of a "slow" machine.
So using full speed is more economical in the end, as batteries are cheaper than the salary of a professional.
I wouldn't slow it down.
