FYI, past issues of the HP Journal include BCD calculator algorithm descriptions for square root (1977-05), trig functions (1977-06), inverse trig functions (1977-11), and logs (1978-04). Although not credited in the 1977-05 article, the square root algorithm is the same one used in the circa-1955 Friden SRW-10 mechanical calculator (with a link to its algorithm on that page).
