Dave, your replacement with the local subroutine screams on my 50g. Time is 102 seconds average for two runs of 1,000 conversions. Nice work. Lots to be said for local subroutines.

I'll try Thomas' and post the 50g time later.

Ok, Thomas' version takes 157 seconds. Although as is usual for him the code is very clean I would guess calling the subroutine whether you need to or not accounts for the extra time. I think the fact that Dave turned my CASE into a bunch of descending whiles was pure genius. Thanks for the insights guys!
