OK, thanks, I went back to my camera's manual to see how to save a picture with a lower quality, and that worked, I could crop it to less than 512k.

You don't have to do it on the camera. If you are using Windows, I'd recommend a simple viewing/editing tool such as IrfanView to resize it.
