Maybe it could be a good idea then if the calculation did not assume a spherical shape but an ellipsoid. This could match the actual tank better than assuming a spherical dome. The volume calculation is even easier, the formula is quite short.

I tried this approach in an HP67 program, and the results look correct to me. The complete program has less than 100 lines.

Now, what do you (all) think about the idea with the elliptical dome top?
