Care to share some pseudocode for your algorithm? With that kind of speed, it would seem not so far out of reach for some of the faster handhelds -- at least the ones that can be left on external power for a while. Looking for any past that first one is still likely a pipe dream, however.

Then again, perhaps your "small laptop" is speedier than you think!
