Deep back in my history I created a disk imaging app for a large well-known computer company in the late '80s. So, yes, I've got some familiarity with disk editors (though not FAT-based, and it's been a while).

I'll check out the app you mentioned and start digging around with it on the SD cards. I was already thinking of doing that anyway, as I've been trying to remember the sequence of things I did prior to the corruption of the SD card file system. I'd love to be able to recreate that so as to know what to avoid in the future.
