Soldering for beginners?

When I was 15, I made several thousand solders to make an Altair computer and it all worked. I used the soldering iron my dad had. I think it was pretty old even then. Mostly it's about practice and learning a few basic rules which I'm sure those videos cover. Find some scrap components and spend some time till you make nice clean shiny joints consistently.
