I can understand you being excited about the Intel Edison, but for a calculator I would want something somewhat smaller. Have you taken a look at micropython? It's a small Arm microcontroller which runs Python (Duh). Take a look at this video or go to http://micropython.org and play with a real, live board. You could even download the micropython source, and compile it on your Edison.
