32SII LCD Part
Can someone tell me where I can buy a new lcd for my 32SII?
It just crapped-out on me today, and after taking it apart, the btm foam is disconnected from the lcd.
I bought this gem for $70 back in 1998 ... faithful old bugger!
I use it every day. Don't like my 33S, and don't want to buy a new one.
Thanx for helping! ... Chris

Look on eBay for a "For parts or not working" HP-32SII. I saw 2 new items exactly like this listed today. This was a very popular machine in production for many years, so there are lots of them floating around.

You can also try contacting:

http://www.fixthatcalc.com

and

http://www.vintagecalculatorrepair.com/

Both have done repairs for forum members for many years.

RE: 32SII LCD Part
You might be able to find a 32S (not the II) model for somewhat less than a comparable 32SII goes for. I believe it uses the same display, one that can theoretically be cannibalized. AFAIK others in the Pioneer series use different displays that probably are not compatible, with the possible exception of the HP-14B and HP-22S.

Those with more repair knowledge than I will have to confirm.

I don't know if this person participates here or not:

http://keesvandersanden.nl/calculators/pioneer.php

Disassembly instructions are linked at the bottom of that page.

This may also help:

Read about the LCD and its bezel under "Miscellaneous Observations"

The 32S and 32SII LCDs are *not* the same. The 32SII has taller digits, and while most of the annunciator segments are quite similar, the 32S has only 1 shift (yellow) while the 32SII has 2 shifts (yellow and blue) each of which have a dedicated shift annunicator (seen as Left or Right arrows respectively). It was indeed unexpected that the Pioneers each have a unique LCD when I first looked closely at them. But I never noticed until your comments that the 14B and 22S are the same. Probably the 2 least popular (and maybe least interesting) Pioneer models could be the reason why.

So, I'm still learning new things about these old things, despite spending years examining these interesting things.

If it is just the foam, the LCD still might be ok? The disconnected/disintegrated foam problem is very common for the 32SII - you could try to replace the foam. I did that with my 32SII a while back.

You can find information at:
http://www.finetune.co.jp/~lyuka/interes...c/hp32sII/
http://www.keesvandersanden.nl/calculato...repair.php

So basically apply another sheet of foam (in my case just a small stripe of double-coated adhesive-strip) on top of the disintegrated foam, so the LCD-connector has contact with the main-board again.

Ooops: Sorry I think I misread your post - you are talking about the LCD and not the keyboard foam... sorry...

RE: 32SII LCD Part
I have some of these LCD's kicking around in my 32SII graveyard box.

I do agree, they are unique to themselves. The 32S is the same as the 14B.

Contact me via private message and we can figure something out.
