To the participants of HHC 2014 (fate of HP-30b)
You might remember I tried repeatedly to find out what's going on with the HP-30b: is it still in production or was it stopped (if true, when)? Unless I missed something there are no hard facts available so far. You'll sit close to at least one knowing person soon - please ask. TIA.

For those of us who want a (or another) WP 34S or WP 31S such an information may influence their plans, since the 43S won't come in 2014 nor 2015 AFAICS.

Beyond that: enjoy the conference!

I won't even think of asking anything being under an NDA. But since Geoff wants to ask me and I'm not under that NDA there won't be any problem anyway.

Given a Eric's comments, I rather suspect the 34S firmware has been or is being ported to the reptile hardware already....

May be, but then we'd have six unused keys and a lot of free space on display. That would be "mit Kanonen auf Spatzen geschossen" (~ breaking a butterfly on a wheel) IMHO.

This would indeed give reason to hope, but - after a possible discontinuation of the 30B - only, if a relevant number of such hardwares were available to the interested public.

That's where Walter's defaitist remarks make me shiver: Not even 2015?!

Sadly,

Remember how long it took to create the 34S firmware. IIRC at least a year of my time - almost full time back then. Fortunately for me (and my bank account) working full time on 43S isn't an option for me. Add to this that there was a whole bunch of working code already present when I joined the team.

43S is a new start. We want to do things differently then we did in the 34S because the hardware is so much more capable. No need to invest in cryptic space saving code. A clean structure is high on my agenda.

So just be patient! 43S will eventually come into existence but don't hold your breath too early. We do not want our potential audience to suffocate. Wink

RE: To the participants of HHC 2014 (fate of HP-30b)
Andreas,

I just recalled what Pauli stated earlier this year.* I don't find his post right now, may be easier for him.

Background: I can do a lot in advance regarding the UI - Pauli and Marcus have to wait for the real HW. Keyboard layout, font design, screenshots, etc. can all be armchair decisions and designs; in fact they started ten months ago with the first publication on the forum. But not a single line of our new code was run on a reptile so far and I don't expect reptiles in my mailbox very soon (but would be delighted if I'd find one). Please also remember it's a hobbyist's project again, luckily none of us can devote more than his spare time to the WP 43S. And since we aren't employed by the Ministry of Witchcraft and Wizardry we must take the pedestrian's approach again. Hope this explains why I wouldn't call excluding 2015 defeatist but realistic (with a tendency to optimistic looking at a launch in 2016).

* Addendum: E.g. here.

Hello,

It might be on interest to you, if you have not noticed, and this is not confidential information, that Atmel has discontinuated the aT91SAM7L CPU...

I will ask; Walter!

Punctuation added, due to poor editing skills, bad typing, ipad grammmer check and a multitude of other errors, missed by me.

See you September 27 to discuss idiosycrasies of english, poor typing skills, benefits of german beer, bratwurst and bakery products. By the way, grandpa tasted yummy!

Thanks! Looking forward to our meeting, fed by Thüringer Bratwurst mit Brötchen, for example.

(BTW, the longer I read this forum the better I understand why automatic spelling and grammar checks are so popular in that language though not sufficient ... For people from other countries, decoding such messages is not eased by sloppiness in linguistic matters. This international forum publicly claims setting great value on politeness but often disregards such basic stuff. - That's not for you, Geoff, I got it that you enriched your post a bit.)

Hi Cyrille,
Thanks for the info.

So it seems it is time to start collecting the HP-30B "new in the box" before they disappear from the market for good Smile

At HHC 2014, Tim Wessman of HP has stated that the HP 30b has been discontinued, and that this information is publicly dissembinable.

Eldoradotrading for Canada is more like -> $16.95 + $19.95 shipping = 36.90 USD
while
samsoncableshpcalculators for Canada is actually cheaper -> $19.99 + $7.79 shipping = 27.78 USD

Thanks for this information. Now we know we'll have to live with the amount of HP-30bs produced. Anyone thinking about getting a WP 34S or WP 31S - you can't afford waiting any longer. I'd recommend you get your hands on a HP-30b.

Thanks for pointing to that. Alas, it's a deal exclusively for the citizens of the USA again. International price policy was discussed here more than once and is still not comprehensible taking into account the devices are all made in China.
