Were batteries preinstalled in 32s 50th Anniversary?
I've acquired a new 32s 50th anniversary limited edition. One thing really worries me: from what I read in the 32s manual, they came with alkaline batteries. Does that mean I have 30 years of battery acid inside the calculator? Is it ruined?

By the way, there's an excellent chance that I'll donate this as a prize at HHC 2020.

David, can you open it and look, or is it still in transit to you? I do not recall ever seeing an LR44/A76 button cell leak, so perhaps they were not as prone to do so as the larger cells are. Hopefully they will just be dead. Sounds like a good door prize for a lucky HHC 2020 attendee.

I had to carefully cut the plastic film protecting a NIB 27S, just to slip out the calculator and remove the batteries.

I think the alkaline LR44 button cells are prone to leak the same as AAA and AA alkaline cells, and I've seen a few worse for wear alkaline button cells before. I've yet to see a silver oxide SR44 or SR44W or equivalent 303/357 leak.

Probably the silver oxides I've never seen leak.

Same experience for me.

RE: Were batteries preinstalled in 32s 50th Anniversary?
Update: I carefully removed the calculator from the package and checked the battery compartment. LR-44 batteries were installed by pressing the ON button did nothing. I swapped with the batteries in my 32sii and the it still didn't turn on. The batteries in the 32s worked fine in my 32sii

I tried ON and + to adjust contrast. No luck.

So I hunted for instructions on how to reset it, found them, and upon a reset, the 32s came up with this existing batteries. Yay!

I put everything back together in the package, ready for HHC2020

Thanks for the comments and suggestions.

Dave
