(19B) Predicting Labor Hours using Learning Rates
From the Working with your Business Consultant Professional Calculator series, Manufacturing Consultant booklet, Predicting Labor Hours using Learning Rates;
formula
LHRS = U1HRS×UNIT#^(LOG(LRN%÷100)÷LOG(2))
where
LHRS = time to produce the unit of interest
U1HRS = time to produce first unit
UNIT = number of units of interest
LRN% = learning rate aa a percent
"Learning curves are useful in analyzing new production processes to
determine how productivity will improve over time. As the produc-
tion team becomes proficient, labor hours per unit decrease,
leading to lower costs
."
