Hi!
New version 12066 for the Prime...
Marcel

RE: New Version: 2017 07 10 (12066) - Tim Wessman - 07-15-2017 01:00 AM

Don't get too excited. Smile

Basically, that just brings the firmware up to date with the current live app versions. I think there were only 4-5 minor changes on the core calculator code between the firmware and the apps. We took the release revision all the apps are currently on, added in the item discussed next, and validated the firmware.

The thing that really drove this firmware release was to get the software version displayed in the exam mode start page for proctors to be able to more easily identify the student is up to date.

Honestly, unless you really want those minor fixes mentioned in the release note file I'd just wait till the next release. (Unless you are a student in a place using the exam mode of course)

If you are wondering why the revision numbers are so different, that is just the way code revision systems work.

Hi Tim,
For me this is a good news to see this new firmware because the Prime is alive!
Thank you

Thank you very much, Tim.

There's been a problem with the release notes file coming with 12066.
It's clearly not up to date, and even less up to date than the one coming with 10637 11 months ago :

HP Connectivity Kit downloaded the new firmware automatically and I am updating the Virtual Calculator with this new firmware.
Since this update was a minor update, I believe this fact didn't release a new version of HP Prime Virtual Calculator.

RE: New Version: 2017 07 10 (12066) - Tim Wessman - 07-15-2017 08:11 PM

So I am currently on holiday (back early next week) and hence wasn't directly involved in the release process this time. The notes to go in the zip I left looked something like this:

Quote:This release of the calculator software brings the HP Prime firmware to the same level as the iOS, Android, macOS, Windows and Windows Store applications.

New Functionality (Calculator Software)
---------------------------------------
1. Added version information to exam mode start screen to allow easy identification by Proctors.

Resolved issues and changes excluding CAS
-----------------------------------------
1. Resolved issue with SORT and real numbers 0 < X < 1
2. Resolved issue with calling integral from Home with complex lower/upper bounds.
3. Resolved issue with user program and nested RETURN call.
4. Resolved issue with EQ and nesed sublists.
5. Resolved issue with √(1_(MN/m^2)*1_(MPa)) generating an error
6. Resolved issue with split stem stem leaf plots with consecutive empty stems.

There were no files uploaded except the firmware zip - No emulators/apps/connkit.

The release notes in the .zip look like this

Quote:This release requires that all of the following components be upgraded for proper operation:•HP Prime Connectivity Kit
•HP Prime Virtual Calculator
•HP Prime Graphing Calculator
CAUTION: All data on your calculator will be deleted during the update process. To prevent data loss, please back up your calculator prior to upgrading. After the update, you can restore your data using the HP Prime Connectivity Kit.
What Has Changed?
•Use the touch screen to move and stretch your function plots and see how your changes affect the equation
•Enhanced touch screen curve sketching with cubic support
•Add a picture to the background of any graph.
•Draw your own fit with your finger in the Statistics 2Var app
•Improved help throughout the system
•Quality and reliability improvements

I believe these are the notes from the prior release.

Note also that the ftp site includes 2 new files, with file dates 7/14/17:

HP_Prime_Calculator_Firmware_20160829.zip
and
HP_Prime_Calculator_Firmware_20170710.zip

Is it good or bad to find out things go to hell when you're not around?

RE: New Version: 2017 07 10 (12066) - pheras1 - 07-20-2017 10:29 PM

Hi All,
When I try to update the update starts but never finishes. It just sits at the "Updating HP Prime..." screen.
I have tried multiple times and have also tried every reset combination but it never goes past this point.
Any ideas?

Thanks!

How long did you wait?...This update took tons longer then the update before it for me...

After reading your post last night, I left it overnight and still the same thing.

RE: New Version: 2017 07 10 (12066) - pheras1 - 07-21-2017 04:56 PM

OK, I think I know what is happening. Is seems that when I click update, the update starts but then at some arbitrary point of the update the calculator looses connection to the computer. I've tried on windows 10 and 7.
Any ideas?

On my comp. the latest update was almost instantaneous and without any problems.

RE: New Version: 2017 07 10 (12066) - Tim Wessman - 07-21-2017 07:57 PM

This "Updating HP Prime" screen you describe. Does it say "Recovery mode" at the top?

We've gotten some indications that the latest Windows 10 update on some systems causes the calculator in the older "Recovery mode" update method to sometimes take 6-7 minutes for windows to detect the USB device. After that, it proceeds normally.

The newer update method that sends some files across separately, and then reboots to update should not have that method. Could you describe more precisely how you trigger your update? What version you have currently on your device?

RE: New Version: 2017 07 10 (12066) - pheras1 - 07-23-2017 09:34 PM

Thanks everyone for the help.
It looks like the problem was the USB cable. Once I switched out the update ran without a hitch. Weird part was that everything worked fine except the update.

Exactly this variant does no work for my Prime. The files were transferred correctly, but the following reboot did never install the update. However the 'old' method worked fine after the 6-7 minutes "Windows grace period" ;-)

Thanks for the hint,

Cheers Tom

You're ready for the next update then. There was a brief window with some newer units from the factory (a version of the software that was unreleased for a download update) where they could support the new update method, but occasionally had problems on the "reboot and perform the update" part. That was corrected in the OS code version from end of last year.

Try the next time on the next update, and it should perform smoothly for you.

This is good news - and explains the hours I've spent to get it updating Wink

Thanks again,
