No idea. I ordered it the 20th of December, received it the 26th under firmware 3.0.
Mine has been ordered on the 20th of December too received also the 26th with firmware 3.0 but the SN is 142.

Beta units weren't shipped ordered by serial # either.
It's like picking up randomly from the box. :)

Like others, experienced the DM42 slip case being too tight (MUCH too tight). Had an idea to turn it inside-out (easier to imagine that to actually do, BTW) and trim down the edges inside the sleeve to hopefully make more room for the calc? But then had brainwave - use the sleeve inside-out! And, indeed, it fits like a proverbial GLOVE !! Problem solved ;-) for me, at least!

The sleeve that the DM42 comes in will stretch in time, and in just a few weeks will be much easier to use (pull machine out).

That said the DM42 fits perfectly, along with an original HP-42S QRG, in one of HP's Pioneer leather cases (they came in Black, Brown, and "Red" (not bright red, more like oxblood) and are often available on TAS, typically for $40-50)

Mine has loosened up a bit, and I leave about a half centimeter gap when I insert it, which allows me to grip at the bottom when I remove it. When I first received it, I needed about five minutes to remove it, and at one point was considering cutting the case off to extricate it from its prison.

As to the OEM HP 42S case, it is way too loose for the DM42, since the HP 42S is wider and thicker.

Both of my DM42s fit the HP leather cases just fine, each also housing a QRG. Maybe yours has stretched over time, or maybe you like them rather tight; these 2 fit great.

I have the standard synthetic case that came with the calculator. You must have the optional leather cases that are sold separately. Do your cases have closure flaps on them ? Regardless, my calculators never leave my house now that I am retired. They are just toys to exercise my mind.

Yes, sorry I may not have clear, I am discussing the optional leather cases with the flap. These were model # 92969 with a trailing letter for each color.

Who has two thumbs and sometimes buys calculators he doesn't want off TAS just to get a case in good condition? This guy.(Thumbs up)

Leather?

When I bought my 42S back in about 1989 or 1990 it came with a rather cheap looking brown vinyl case that's really tight. In fact it's so tight that I rarely slide (jam) the calculator all the way down because it'll take me all day to get it out again... (photo here)

Early Pioneers came with a vinyl case as seen in your photo. Later (I don't know exact models or dates; my original 21S and 42S had the early style) HP switched to a brown faux leather case (also some kind of vinyl or plastic) that was a bit less tight. There are actually many small variations of this case, likely due to subcontractor that made them. The latest model Pioneers (final models of the 32SII, 10B, and 17BII with alternate color schemes) came with the same style faux leather case, but in a darker brown/black color (generally hard to even notice unless placed next to the older brown case).

In addition to the above cases that came with the calculator, HP also sold, as an accessory, genuine leather cases, with a flap that folds over the top and tucks under a strap across the front.

A very similar case, of slightly smaller size, was also sold as an accessory for the Voyager models, as well as another similar, but larger case, sold for the 18/19/28 series models.

And I too have purchased a calculator I did not need, just to get the leather case. One time, I got the calc + case for less than the case alone typically costs, but that was just lucky.

The DM42 is back in stock at Swiss Micros. Don’t wait to order one, since they will probably sell out quickly, and the next batch is not due in until April.

Don't dally.

The February batch is 600 and several hundred are already spoken for.

Thanks for the tip. Just ordered one last Thursday in the store, and just received it today.

Great hardware and work they put in. So happy I did not go for a second hand 42S on Ebay, and got this one instead! Smile

Have found some bugs (got it to hard lock up in USB mode connected to my Mac), and some errors in the filename/label for save state, but generally very happy.

The only things is that I got quite a bad pouch, but I will contact SwissMicros about that (perhaps they can send a replacement).

The other things is that the labels on the different keys seems to differ how high up or down they are printed on different keys/rows. I do not know if it is they same for other calculators, but I would guess so.

All in all, I am very happy with the machine! Smile

Yes, can confirm. Mine was obnoxiously tight at first, but it's nice and loose after a couple weeks.
