So if I had to pick one or the other, I'd go with portrait for versatility, but if the only concern is desktop use, I think landscape has a slight edge.

Dave, as a handheld, just use a landscape calculator like the whole world use a smartphone or tablet for typing: with the two thumbs. You get all versatility that you may want with a landscape.

Have a nice weekend for you all

That's not too bad as far as grip, but the drawback is that you end up with just your right thumb to work the numbers, as opposed to two or three fingers on your preferred dominant hand.

I make it a rule to always type with at least three thumbs.

(What about a landscape design with the digits in the center, and the functions on either side?)

Not necessery. Just use a 15c and you will know why Smile

Are you all thumbs J?

I definitely prefer portrait as I can hold it in the palm of one hand. That's one of the reasons I prefer the HP-38C to its successor, the HP-12C.

Smile Smile Smile

That was very good, I can't stop laughing...

Actually we only need two thumbs, Massimo, to be fast enough in a landscape calculator, as everybody are doing in their smartphones...
!

But I admit, you have a very good sense of humor, I think all italians have. Thanks

Cheers

In a text, wrong, missing and extra characters happen just about every message and no one cares as they get the meaning. Same phenomena on a calculator is almost certainly going to lead to instant trouble. Even on Voyagers, which I like and use, I need to use the same fingers as on a portrait machine. Don't you?

I understand what you mean, of course there's a difference between typing loosely and crunching numbers, but when you know the keyboard by heart, you can be fast and exact at the same time. And when I'm in portrait calculator, as in 48 or 42s, that I like most, of course I don't use the thumbs, but I know the keyboard as well and, that's the difference, I use only one finger. But in my case, there's not much difference because productivity is not a goal for me anymore.

Sorry, doesn't have the same class as the original, IMO.

No, no, no, no,....

RE: Poll: Landscape or Portrait? - Massimo Gnerucci - 03-06-2016 07:53 PM

Besides that ugly vertical ENTER and too few digits... ;)

RE: Poll: Landscape or Portrait? - Maximilian Hohmann - 03-06-2016 08:34 PM

And the arithmetic keys are on the wrong side. If this were the typical "portrait" calculator, I would change my vote to "landscape"...

You are right (as the keys are...) of course. ;)

39 keys ?

Blasphemy !!

I'm the same, preferring portrait, and when using landscape using mostly the same fingers.

I've observed an interesting phenomena with calculators that if you focus on being accurate, you become faster, while if you focus on being faster, you become less accurate.
