Free42 version 1.5.7 - Gerald H - 02-29-2016 09:06 AM

The INSR bug has now been fixed.

The action bar is a noteworthy addition to the screen display.

If only there was a way to make it optional...

I've moved back to 1.5.5 (android) I just can't find the apk for 1.5.6.

RE: Free42 version 1.5.7 - Gerald H - 02-29-2016 07:04 PM

I don't believe there was a version 1.5.6

That should explain it. Just checked the history log:

Quote:2014-12-21: release 1.5.6

* iPhone version: implemented Copy and Paste.
* iPhone version: fixed LOCAT for iOS 8.
* All versions, on hard reset, now initializing flag 28 (decimal point/comma)
to match the host's locale.
* Paste didn't clear the message flags. Fixed.

I understood that "all versions" implied Android as well, which was a bit puzzling as I was under the impression that it'd been a long time since last update.

Anyway, apparently Thomas is looking into making it optional. It makes sense for some devices, but I find that for smaller screens this fixed action bar on top makes the app harder to use and not as pleasing to look at.

Ditto. Customization seems to be a lost art.

Me too.

How can I move back to 1.5.5? I don't see this opportunity neither on Thomas' website nor on G#% Play. Help will be appreciated.

d:-?

P.S.: I deinstalled 1.5.7 which was automatically updated on my phone without asking me.

Don't you have any backup on your Android device?

Frankly, I thought G#% has my data anyway so there's no backup of any apps necessary. For data files I have my backups but that's another story.

If you google around you will find several places from where to download it, albeit somehow risky since they are not official sites. ;)

Thanks for for the warning. I've just disabled the autoupdate for this app.

I searched the filesystem in my (Android) phone and have found that Free42 resides on both an .apk file and a .so library, so I cannot recover the original .apk. I do not have any backup, so I cannot be of any help here.

Massimo,

I'm curious.

Since you were able to go back one revision of Free42, did you have the previous APK file? Are you running a backup program that does incremental backups? I've done backups of individual APK's using a file manager. But that is a pain since I must remember to actually do it before updating.

Are you running an app that will do auto backups?

Thanks,

Bill

Here I am.

I use Titanium Backup for complete daily backups of my data+programs; I also use App Backup & Restore as another protection layer when an app gets updated.

My devices are rooted.

How come? How can a perfect app become this bad in a blink? The landscape skin is now useless.

Let's hope Thomas is read us.

Sometimes is better leave things as they are when no-one is complaining.

In the what's new of this version, the change is justified because of some devices lacking a menu button. In fact, the developer seems not to be very happy being forced to introduce such function because of such devices. I suspect some users of such devices complained.

From what I read, Titanium is great, but requires Root. And App Backup & Restore does not require Root, and thus cannot backup protected files.

I'll have to give App Backup & Restore a try. Would probably do what I need for most items.

I have reviewed the pros of rooting and while I can appreciate it, just really don't have the desire to do it.

Is it so difficult to make an option to disable that thing?

We ar so grateful to Thomas that we can't complain, but if he can read us, maybe he can manage an option.

This might be a good time to consider Android go42S:

https://sites.google.com/site/olivier2smet2/home/go42s

True, it costs & you have to supply a ROM but it is a pure emulator (except for size of memory).

Correct & correct.

It should be enough for a free app as Free42.

Which landscape skin are you using? Though I don't need/like the toolbar, it works fine on my Droid RAZR MAXX with both the default (portrait) and landscape skins.

I'm pretty sure Thomas does follow here, especially after any controversial release. I suspect a new version allowing this to be disabled will appear soon.

RE: Free42 version 1.5.7 - Jlouis - 03-02-2016 01:01 AM

Bob, I mean useless because it have shrunk downside, making it horrible to use.

Of course it is working, but I can't use it anymore.

Ityge H layout. I'm gonna check others, but this one was my preferred.
