Call for young collectors! - Katie Wasserman - 11-06-2015 05:03 PM

I just saw this interesting post on the Google old calculator forum. I'm sure that an all HP calculator collection would certainly qualify as a unique and interesting collection. Are there any collectors here that are "young" not just young at heart?

Well, I doubt that 40 years is "young", and Europe is maybe also a bit far away, but:

Keep in mind visiting HP-Collection when you're in Switzerland. You're all welcome.

And I can confirm it's worth a detour (on the Guide Michelin scale).

Unfortunately it's not, they're looking for "kids and teens".

Mathias could go for three teens.

My kids (both under teen years) are using WP-31S in daily school work. In fact they may be the only ones their age in Canada doing so (possibly North America). Perhaps they qualify for this.

That's great, but do they have a calculator collection that they could show off?

RE: Call for young collectors! - walter b - 11-11-2015 07:46 AM

Does anybody at all collect calculators at that age (teens and below)?

I don't remember anybody doing this 40 years ago - those instruments were expensive tools then. Even professors just had one calculator at a time and gave their previous models to their team members.

Now, these instruments became cheap enough so everybody can buy (almost) as many recent models as (s)he likes - but who of the younger generation would collect such boring stuff? And who of them would even acquire the old, very limited models without deep own memories to the time they were the state of the art? People collecting vintage objects are usually far older than the target group of that call.

Just my 20m€.

Congratulations! May they become true pioneers!

Born in 1996, I might be qualified...
I have collections of HP, TI, CASIO and SHARP, among which the TI prototyoe PLT-SHH1 should be the most valuable one... But still, HP is the most beautiful!

Also maybe my friend BXG who collects all the models from TI-81 to TI-89... He is a little bit older than me.

Edit: Just contacted Sarah.
Bad news: I'm too old to be qualified. TAT
Good news: ZephRay, or nbzwt, or Zweb (Anyway, my friend in Ningbo who ports the WP-34S to NSpire...) is under 18! Now I'm lookong for him showing up in the TV screem XD

If Ben S. hadn't returned the 15c I lent him years ago, he'd qualify as a young collector.

They only accept collectors under 18... So unfortunately you are too old Sad

BTW, nice collection.

Maybe kids now collect calculator APPS on their phones?

If you want to show off pretend that your son/daughter owns your collection. Give your kid a crash course in HP-calculatorlogy and let them become famous ;-)
