Bob, thank you for that link!

I find this sentence the most disturbing.

Quote:As a result, there have been some official responses from HP regarding his project, though not in a way that sounds like the final word to me.

Does Michael have a continuous worry that HP is going to sue him?

We could help him getting out of this dilemma (if there is one): He could build HW for the WP 34S making all of us independent of the dwindling HP-30b.

That would be cool. Two line display, durable keyboard, usb connectivity, etc.

While we're at it, I guess it wouldn't hurt to trim the edges a tiny bit to make it a tad smaller. Smile

I met Michael last year at the Allschwil meeting. He stated that HP asked him about the volumes of sales and didn't show further interest when they heard the numbers. He looked very relaxed.

PS.: Walter was at that meeting too

RE: News from Swissmicros! - 4ster - 12-04-2015 03:35 PM

This thread convinced me to buy a DM-41, it arrived in my mailbox yesterday. I visited their website this morning to review the special instructions for the DM-41 and noticed that they have two new, larger models - the DM-41L and the DM-16L. Dang!

Besides what's on the Swiss Micros web site, is anyone aware of a tutorial for using the serial port? (especially with Mac OS).

Yes, here it is the 41L.

As I said, this time I was hoping for a portrait format, as the original one.
The keyboard layout with "- + * /" in the middle of it, as in my DM-41, is unbearable.

Apart from this, it's good to have another source for a new 41.

Ordered a DM41L and a DM16L!!! Can't wait until they get here!

Are there any updates or reviews about the DM-15L? I'd like to see the pros and cons before I guy. A nice YouTube video by owners so I can hear the sound of buttons.

RE: News from Swissmicros! - walter b - 12-15-2015 08:55 AM

I've got a DM16L and can tell you there is an audible click for each key. I doubt, however, recording it would make sense.

Are the keys printed or injection molded? Are the key presses consistent now? I heard there was issues with the enter key.

  1. The key labels are printed.
  2. Please tell me how you'd qualify 'key press consistency'. TIA.
  3. Please specify what issues were with the ENTER key and what you want being checked. TIA.

RE: News from Swissmicros! - Alex Liggett - 12-20-2015 07:23 AM

Hi, long time lurker, first time poster. I use the HP-15C LE as my main number-cruncher in my day job as a land surveyor. I had always wanted an HP-15C (eventually I bought a second hand one, 'cos you can't have too many calculators right?) and so jumped at the chance to buy a new one when the -LE came out, and of course am now kicking myself that I didn't buy two or even 4 or 5, given their rather precipitous rise in value. I bought a DM-15 a while ago, but found the key-presses a bit too hard and unreliable for fast work - a handy tool for backup use, but then so is the Android App. The DM-15L seems like a perfect solution, and it has now replaced my -LE as my main machine. As others have intimated the keyboard is not like the -15C or -CLE. The keys require a firm press, but the more I use it the more I like it. It is also of course much faster than the original 15C, and rather heavier in the hand. My real reason for posting though is that mine came with a slightly damaged LCD. An email to Michael had a replacement display winging its way to me within a week - professional level customer service! The installation of the new LCD (15 minute task) meant an excuse to see behind the scenes:

Thanks for sharing the pics. I may be the only one out there, but I never really cared for the Voyager series. The keyboard always seemed mushier to me than other HP keyboards. I might actually like the SwissMicro better for that reason. Michael seems like he really wants to do the right thing and put customer satisfaction ahead of profit. How refreshing.

Alex, thanks for the pictures. Are the keys hinged at their bottom?

Yes, they are. There were pictures published a few days earlier on the other forum, BTW.

The other forum? Am I missing something interesting outside from the museum forum?

I read, from time to time references to TOS... Does it have something to do with this?

Just meant http://www.hpmuseum.org/forum/showthread.php?tid=5271&pid=47309 and http://www.hpmuseum.org/forum/showthread.php?tid=5271&pid=47382 on "Not quite HP calculators - but related" - it's the forum where this thread belongs as well, IMHO.

Walter was referring to a post in another Forum (Not quite HP Calculators - but related) within this same site.

There are no forums at TOS - most TOS customers use these forums.

Why are you asking the same question twice??
