Does anyone actually know if Swissmicros intend to offer a full-size-with-real-keyboard version of the HP-16C?

I've scoured their web site, and I do not see anything to indicate that. Of course, if they were to indicate something like that, they might stall their current sales as folks wait for the new version (sort of like what happened to Osborne a long time ago).

I would be very seriously interested in purchasing a Swissmicros HP-16C with a real keyboard if they become available, especially looking at the prices that good used HP-16Cs are fetching on eBay these days.

On http://www.swissmicros.com/#DM-15L they write:

SwissMicros Wrote:[...] the DM-15L is the first in a row having the same size as the original HP calculators. [...]
Since a "DM-12L" does not make much sense, as the HP-12C and HP-12C Platinum are readily available on the market - new and for much less - the next good candidate in this form factor using the same (emulated) processor would be in fact the HP-16C. We'll see...

Greetings,

Matthias

IMHO the 41L is also a good candidate.

Michael told me some time ago they were working on it...

But, in landscape format? It losses quite a bit of the charm of having it back... Also, would it offer a way to "load" software modules?

No, it should come in portrait format (finally).

It is very attractive --- especially near X'mas.

I read from Swissmicros site the machine has more memory ( I suppose it means programming steps ).

Does anyone know how many steps it has ?

Thanks in advance.

RE: News from Swissmicros! - Sadsilence - 11-02-2015 12:19 PM

DM-41 says: 00 REG 219

The (41C+QUAD)/41CV/41CX has 320 registers of 7 bytes of main memory (minus some bytes for it's internal usage).
Assuming the DM-41 has the same amount of memory, if you see 219 registers in program mode, you should have 100 data registers, can you confirm ?
An easy way to find it, is to clear the DM-41, set the SIZE to 000 and look at the program registers available.
Best regards,
Sylvain

Highly unlikely - that would require patching the OS to recognize the additional memory, not an easy task to do (albeit not impossible, mind you...)

Hello Sylvain,

you are right. After SIZE 000 it says

00 Reg 319

Best regards,

Werner

From the "oh god please just take my money" department, I'll put in a vote for something based on the WP-34s but with real keys instead of the overlays.

With the option to update the firmware via USB? Smile

within Switzerland everything goes faster Wink

I got my new PCB (version 6) today. Looks great, the key foil seems to be much better. Some electronical parts changed their place too. The changement is finished within 5 minutes and the unit works perfect.

How about some pictures?

Hi Walter

Sorry, already build in. Maybe Michael might share some pics?

great!
How about the clicking noise of the keys, is it smoother and quieter?

My replacement board arrived in the post this morning. Not installed it yet but just clicking the domes through the anti-static bag they seem much better. I think, when installed, it will be pretty close to an original 12C/15C but not quite as good as the very positive key travel movement of a modern, 2-coin cell 12C.

In summary: if you have a 15CLE then don't sell it for one of these. But if you don't have a 15C of any description and want to get one for real work rather than the collection, then I would definitely recommend the new DM15L.

Now for a DM16L. Please!

Mine has arrived, too. I cut the edge of the supporting foam to make the board fit easier.

How do you like the keyboard?

Thanks
