HP 95LX: Derive Maths Programme - Gerald H - 03-09-2015 08:22 AM

I have a Derive version 2.5 application card (also works on 100 & 200LX).

Does anyone know if there were any updated cards with a later version number?

At the time of this review the latest version was 4.13.

P.S.: Not sure whether this was ever available as an application card for the HP-200LX though, so your question remains answered.

But is that version on an application card?

I think 4.13 is a miss-print for 3.13.

Very unlikely to ever have been available as an HP-200LX application card, I fear.

Quoting from the review:

"Speedwise, the new version seems about the same as the 3.x versions."

This might imply that one was version 4.13 indeed.

RE: HP 95LX: Derive Maths Programme - Gerald H - 03-09-2015 10:33 AM

I tried, at the time, to keep up with developments in Derive & have a version 3.13 running on a 200LX, it won't work on the 95LX.

I guess versions later than 3.13 won't run on the 200LX - does anyone have a version 4.x loaded that functions correctly?

My original query was only concerning versions on application cards.

It seems from this archive that Derive 4.11 can run on the 200LX: DERIVE with Acrospin for 200LX 4.11.

Do you have a picture of your Derive application card?

Thanks Didier, yes 4.11 works OK on 100LX.

Also, of course, on my 200LX. Merci beaucoup, Didier!

Were there any special drivers that you needed to install (for the screen, perhaps) in order for derive to run? I remember trying to get an old version (was it 5, perhaps?) to run and could not. I assumed that as long as you had a DOS environment (which the LX does, sort of) that it would just be a matter getting the appropriate display drivers. However, I never got it to work (due to lack of drivers.)

RE: HP 95LX: Derive Maths Programme - Gerson W. Barbosa - 02-10-2017 02:01 AM

I don't remember where I got it from, but this link says this Derive version is optimized for the HP-200's CGA monochrome display. Unfortunately the dark stain in the center of my 200LX grew to an extent that has made it unusable. I replaced the display once for the same reason.

Good luck!

Gerson.

Thank you, Gerson! I'll give a whirl and see where it takes me :-)

I am a bit slow to join, but I have already spent quite sime time get hold of version 4.13. All I found was version 4.11, which is also the latest version mentioned by the derive user group. So 4.13 was either indeed a typo or very rare.

BTW, derive for dos also runs quite well in a dos box on my android tablet. I prefer it over the current alternatives (e.g. xcas, geogebra).

Sorry for digging old thread, are there any person have copy of derive manual in pdf format?
I have found "Grand Tour of Derive" (1995), but haven't found about "The Derive User Manual" which mentioned on page 6.

RE: HP 95LX: Derive Maths Programme - Ross Barnes - 11-08-2021 03:26 PM

In 2006 I tried buying a copy of Derive for DOS from Texas Instruments without success. I ended up purchasing a copy of Derive for DOS from bk teachware in Linz, Austria. I received version 4.11 with a printed manual.

Over the years I've looked for a pdf version of the DOS manual without success. The Derive User Group mentioned by Martin Hepperle is a great source of Derive for DOS information. The earlier newsletters (#1-#30) deal primarily with Derive for DOS.

The newsletters also mention web sites that no longer exist and as Martin Hepperle mentioned archive.org is a useful tool for retrieving them.

The link below also provides a short overview of Derive for DOS:
