HP-35S - batteries already installed? - Benoit Maag - 03-08-2015 08:30 PM

Just bought a couple of HP-35s for my kids but they are still young so I will wait before I give it to them (probably another 10 years). I would prefer not to open the package, but I am concerned that batteries may leak if they are already installed in the machine.

Does anyone know if the batteries are pre-installed in the machine?

As far as I remember they were in a separate plastic bag. You should be safe.

Correct, you need to install them.

Personally, if I were going to purchase an HP-35s <shudder> for use in the distant future, I would remove it from the packaging and verify that it is fully functional before putting it into storage. You wouldn't want to open the packaging in 10 years only to discover that the keyboard or display was flawed.

Just my opinion.

I have bought a total of 22 new 35S of which 5 had defective keyboards, so definitely open & check the calculator works.

HP made no problems & sent fully working replacements within 2 weeks.

I can't imagine this is only for you ;-)
Are they for a classroom?

Yes, I issue them to my students.

Depending on their ability & degree of poverty I gift them at the end of the course, otherwise I reuse them.

This is nice.... congratulations.

Also, you are spreading RPN to the youngers.

Mark,

Thank you for the advice
Just checked both machines and the keyboards work well
