Prime CAS noob question - Bill Triplett - 08-25-2022 02:46 PM

How do we persuade the Prime to tell us ln(1+i) is symbolically equal to ln(2)/2 + (π/4)*i?

RE: Prime CAS noob question - Albert Chan - 08-25-2022 02:58 PM

evalc(ln(1+i)) --> 1/2*ln(2) + i*π/4

Thanks, Albert.

Is there no flag to set in preferences so the machine does not force a user to dig through a glossary of magic functions?

I am sorry to say, I found a simpler way. See the attached.

Bill

In CAS settings, if a user checks the "Exact" box, and the "Complex" box, and checks the "Use i" box, then the machine really should automatically respond with ln(2)/2+(π/4)*i when a user provides ln(1+i) as input.
