In Search of 15C+ ROM image - David Hayden - 06-21-2022 12:20 AM

I have a handful of 15C+ calcs that I'm hoping to flash to the last beta ROM before the PSE bug was introduced. I foolishly kept only the latest ROM versions during the beta program, so I only have the one dates 2011-04-15. I also have an image dated 2009-08-03, but I'm sure there were several in between.

Does anyone have any other versions?

If you don't know, the 15C+ was on the bezel of the 15C-LE beta calculators.

My hope is to flash these calcs and sell them.

Thanks,
Dave

This would be great and I'd like to do the same thing if you find it.

Someone on fb had it but wouldn't share due to copyright even though I own the physical calculator :-(

RE: In Search of 15C+ ROM image - Steve Simpkin - 06-21-2022 04:24 AM

Out of curiosity, would it be possible to flash a HP-12C of the same vintage with this 15C firmware file to create a HP-15C LE?

Flash a HP12C arm version V2 to a normal HP15C has been already done.

There is no technical road block to flash the HP15C LE rom into a HP12C arm V2.

Just you need keyboard overlay to really use.

When/by whom? Does someone have the production 15C-LE ROM image to load?

The last beta rom David mentioned has a date 2011-04-15, which is the same as the production rom date:
checksum: ChE--FFFFh, 2011-04-15, C 2008 hP

Does the beta have the same checksum?

Version 4/11/11

Version 4/15/11

Version 8/19/09

RE: In Search of 15C+ ROM image - dmh - 06-24-2022 07:33 AM

Thanks Katie!

Are there any notes on the differences?

Is the 4/15/11 version the LE release version?

Thanks

@Katie, Thanks from me too.

Does anyone know, if the flashing process is the same as with the HP30b?

And are there any specific examples of where a later Arm powered 12C has been flashed?

I have a couple of Arm 12c's around the house somewhere and don't mind bricking one of them should the process go wrong, but I'd like to know a little more about the specifics of flashing an Arm 12C.

RE: In Search of 15C+ ROM image - dmh - 06-24-2022 12:38 PM

I think it needs to be a 12CP version 1 (not the newer versions), see https://www.hpmuseum.org/forum/thread-18285.html

Thanks for these images, was able to successfully flash my
ARM 12C!

I don't guess there is documentation outlining the differences between the images? Confirmed that the 8-09 version does not have the PSE bug.

Thanks for info.

Did you also check the Version 4/11/11 for PSE bug?

That might be a lot closer to the final version hopefully without that bug.
(I read somewhere the bug got re-introduced in the last version)

It would be useful if the oncalc checksum could be posted for any of the roms tried.
If the 4/15/11 version has same checksum as the production rom of same date, it can likely be used to reflash 15le back to stock if needed.

RE: In Search of 15C+ ROM image - tgwell2 - 06-26-2022 01:12 AM

Here's what I've got:

08/03/09 - 7979h : PSE works multiple times, screen blank on overflow
04/11/11 - 7d7dh : PSE bug, screen flashes on overflow
04/15/11 - ffffh : PSE bug, screen flashes on overflow

FYI, they all pull ~18mA on button press.

Let me know if there is anything else you all would like me to try!

Thanks for doing this!
This confirms the last beta has same checksum as production rom.
The other bug that would be very interesting to check on the earlier firmwares is the low battery indicator bug, but this will be harder to check without a variable power supply or nearly depleted batteries.

RE: In Search of 15C+ ROM image - tgwell2 - 06-26-2022 12:12 PM

What's the low battery bug? I can check that as well.

RE: In Search of 15C+ ROM image - dmh - 06-26-2022 12:26 PM

So is the programming with the HP cable the same process as the 30b to WP 34s in terms of power and cable button presses?

Thanks
