For Europe look for HP 82066B charger. It fits several devices.
Be prepared it isn't a very cheap part.

Hi Chris, I had the same issue. Due to our UK lockdown I just finished designing and 3D printing the "unobtainium" power plugs for my HP-75 and HP-71. They are presumably the same as for your HP-97.
If you contact me I'll either send you the STL file to print, or a ready made-up lead to add to any small 8Vac transformer. The transformer must be small (about 3.5VA), so the poor regulation makes sure the on-load voltage to the calculator is kept low.
The plugs use the TE 350417-1 .093" female crimp connectors available from Farnell in small quantities. These connectors are a perfect fit - just like the originals.

I have a 82067B (UK 220VAC) charger for HP97, etc that I picked up in a collection. Being in the US, I cannot use. The plug on the end looks to be UK. It is removeable and could be replaced with the EU plug...
Given the Happy New Year, I'm willing to send for cost of shipping.

but I have that one already (found it in the meanwhile).
The 97 doesn't work with it. Could be because the battery is old and/or that the adapter is specifed 240V while we have 230V over here.

I have had to re-build every single battery pack for HP calculator devices bought in the last year. That's about 8 packs so far - a good use of lockdown time! None of the original battery packs was working properly. Some had leaked and were completely dead. Others had just lost the ability to hold charge.

Even if some calculator's mains adapter from the 70's support 220 V or 240 V I don't think this is of relevance.
220, 230, 235 or 240 V in my opinion doesn't matter

Did it worked ?
I rebuilted also my pack with fresh NiMh cells avoiding those pesky poisonous NiCd.
You can also weld the 0 +5V of an USB sacrificial cable directly to the battery connection on the motherboard as i did. You can remove and desolder the original power connector and use its hole for USB cable passthrough.
Just beware of polarity otherwise you might blow a tentale capacitor !
Then use a good USB charger 1.5A or 2A is perfect. 1A is not enough when printing.

Yes. It works now!
The current problem now is that the printer doesn't advance the paper. I have to drag the paper by hand.
I haven't tried the card reader. Probably the next field for work...

I had the very same issues ;-)
For the printer you need to get it out and disassemble it to pieces for replacing the hardened soft plastic drum for paper advance (a piece of tube was perfect on mine).

Be carefull not to loose the tiny "cirflex" shaft locking washers, they have tendency to fly around and to desapear.
My own citation :
"I just fixed the printer paper advance issue by replacing the cracked old elastomeric friction wheels by sections of rubber tube just pressed in. To do so i had to desassemble completely the printer mecanism shafts. It was not difficult. Cleaning and added some silicon oil on the wheels and shaft. Works as new now."
