Merci beaucoup Gérard !

I have the pleasure to own the originals with my 41CX but it's sometimes more convenient to search an information right now from everywhere, from a PC, and from the digital copy !

Thanks
Keep you healthy

Hello Gérard,

I don't know where you got these files from, but they have been assembled by Emmanuel Compes in 2012 based on a previous scan, see here. They are no more available on his site, so thanks for preserving them.

This somehow indicates your generation, I'm in my 60+ and don't use this outdated expression :-)

It must also be dependent on where you're from (each region has its own vernacular). I do use this expression without finding it outdated, and yet at 52 years of age, I'm younger than both of you. For my part I spent 15 years in Provence and then 9 years in the Loire Valley.

Not being a French-speaker, I just looked it up on Google Translate...

Yuk! If thrush-less, I'd go out for Pizza...

Looked it up on Wiktionary.

https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/faute_de_grives_on_mange_des_merles

The idiom translates to:

- Beggars can't be choosers
- Half a loaf is better than none

Five years in Paris and La Rochelle... Thought I knew more argot.

Hi,

I think yes it depend may be from geographics sites and for sure it is an old
sentence. My Father and Maman sometime speak this. May be too because of war.
Father vas borned in 1908 and Maman in 1914 in the nordth east of france.

In Nice I never eared this sentence.

Good day.

Thank you very much for preserving and sharing thses manuals.

The expression is certainly a bit outdated, but I sometimes hear and even use it.
Regional influences: Lorraine, Burgundy and Rhône-Alpes and I must be a few years younger than Jean-François, so I would lean toward a regionalism from the north-east.

Take care of yourself and your family!

Jean-Christophe.

I use the expression quite often. I’m from Lyon in my 50’s.
