HP 9825 meets Apollo Guidance Computer - sorta - BobVA - 08-06-2019 08:40 PM

Interesting YouTube video from a series about restoring a barn-find AGC. The 9825 is just used to control the HP power supply via HP-IB, but it does get a screen credit :-)

Very interesting project. But I would never, never use a vintage computer to control the power supply of such a unique and unreplaceable device as an Apollo Guidance Computer. And anyway, this HP 9825 computer is not contemporary with the AGC but came 20 years later, so it does not make much sense to put the two together.

If I would be involved in such a project I would power that AGC from a 28V battery (so that it can get no overvolatge under any circumstances) with a very fast current limiting device for maximum protection.

Regards
Max

Just watched the whole series. Awesome.

How people can call it a conspiracy when you look at just a small portion of the overall complexity is beyond me.

cheers

Tony

Technically the Apollo Guidance Computer was last used for the Apollo–Soyuz Test Project (ASTP) flight in July 1975. This was only about one year before the HP 9825A was introduced.

Agreed, but I really enjoyed Capricorn One:
