Most Expensive HP Calc? - John W Kercheval - 05-03-2014 05:47 PM

What is the most expensive sale you've seen?

Not including wacky one-offs for collector's items (where common sense and sensible value have no place), I think the HP-75D was the most expensive new HP "Caculator" (a bit of a stretch here) as it listed at $1195.00 IIRC.

If you include silly stuff on TAS and similar places, the sky is the limit.

As an example, just today someone purchased one of the ASTECH hard cases for Pioneer models for $200.00 + shipping. Yes, they are very nice. And no doubt somewhat rare these days. But $200? Really?

The most expensive recent sale on TAS was an HP-01 that went for $1250 back in February. If you don't count the HP-01 as a calculator, then next on the list is a red dot HP-35 that went for $916 a few weeks ago.

There are plenty of people on TAS asking higher (sometimes much higher) prices for various items...it takes a seller AND a buyer to make a sale, though.

They are very nice cases - I have two that I bought new a number of years ago for $75 each (they were New Old Stock). Maybe it's time I sold mine. But they give such great protection to a 42S.

Back in February someone got a steal - a HP-14B in an Astech hard case for $17 plus $6 shipping. And that included 9 bids on it. So there are bargains to be had on TAS.

Rumor is that Bill Hewlett's personal gold filled HP-01 was sold at Sotheby's for more money than you can count.

How about this one:

Asking price only 14500 US$.

I think we have a winner!

RE: Most Expensive HP Calc? - HP-Collection - 05-03-2014 09:23 PM

No, the most expensive HP Calc was a HP-95C aquired in 2010. The price is a secret but is far above the SOLD HP-01.

I see there are six watchers keeping an eye on that auction. Probably ready to snipe a bid in at the last moment to snag that "bargain" Smile

Congratulations to that 95C. I hope it's worth the price. But what did you do to that picture? The outer edge of the calculator looks quite eroded to me.

Anyway, it's a pity they didn't build more 95Cs. They are good-looking definitly.

Well, I'm happy, that there are that less HP-95C in the world [Wink]
Concerning the picture: Photoshop is not as good as Harvard Graphics.

And then there's the HP-15C LE that made another appearance on TAS this morning. The asking price is $5889.99. That figure would be outrageous even if you deleted an arbitrary digit. (Maybe the seller calculated it or typed it in using one of those 15C LEs with a flaky keyboard.)

Hate to say it, but Photoshop is as good as its user knows it ;-p.

Hints: Try a smooth selection boundary. 'Q' gives you the masked mode in which you can esily correct for some problems. There are a million other segmentation tricks for certain image content in PS.

I expect for many on this forum that their first HP calculator purchased was the most expensive --> not literally but it led me to purchase many more of the latest and greatest HPs over the last 34 years.

Too cheap to qualify - please read previous posts.

Are you ready for this? It's just begging for someone to say it....

The most expensive HP Calc ever sold is the one you never actually use.
