HP 41CX with Strange Serial Number - Gerald H - 01-02-2019 06:28 AM

On offer on ebay, can anyone say validity of serial number?

I see nothing strange about the serial number other than the fact that it's on a label in the battery compartment. That could be because the lower shell, on which the serial number is stamped below one of the ports, was replaced at some point during the calculator's life.

2508S = week 8 of 1985, made in Singapore.

My question is whether HP used any such plaques on HP 41's as carriers of serial number.

This is a normal procedure during HP Warranty Service. They have installed a new backside; in this case the original serial number comes on a sticker.

You can find a similar one HP-41CV actually on eBay:

Are they rarity? I don’t think so. But just my 2 cents

Have you noticed the front Label "Hewlett - Packard 41CX" is also missing.

Strange!

That's it. Nothing special, and not a "rarity" at all. I have seen several HP-41 units with replaced lower shells. Some of the service people used to scratch the original serial number onto the blank area where it was stamped on the old shell, other people simply used the sticker.

The pics below are from my personal collection, and show an EmptyNut along with empty card reader shell. Both are unused, and were produced by HP as service replacements.

Nothing special either. Could mean that even the upper shell had been replaced.
Since it's a non-Halfnut, this is rather easy.
