On a Samsung Galaxy state stores as .r17bii file, .r42s files can't be recalled.
Anyone have the same problem?

New update, 1.4.2, fixes some bug(s), still saves state as .r17bii & refuses to load .r42s.

I confirm that the new version of go42s saves RAM files with .r17bii extension.
I don't have any previous .r42s file so I can't test the loading of these ones.
Did you report the issue to the go42s author?
I had an issue with the update 1.4.0 crashing on my tablet, I reported the issue and 1.4.1 fixing this issue was released within a couple of days.
Also have you tried to rename your .r42s files to .r17bii and load them?

Renaming to .r17bii works for loading.

I've just received v1.4.3 fixing the saved files extension.
