As I'm also a slide rule geek, I enjoy that immensely.

I can't quite read the copyright date and am curious when that was published. Do you know?

Hardware-based calculators are themselves a vanishing breed now that (nearly) everyone has a smart phone. :-P

The first two digits are definitely "19", possibly followed by "8".

That was reprinted in the Bloom County anthology "Tales Too Ticklish to Tell" in September 1988 (so it must have run in the papers sometime before).

Oliver Wendell Jones was rather in love with his new Banana Junior 6000.

Bloom County was one of my favorite comics in the eighties.
