Update HP Prime - MullenJohn - 03-21-2018 04:49 PM

Greetings,

What is the best way to convert to the latest firmware?

Where are the steps for the procedure to update the HP Prime calculator from a windows 10 computer?

Thanks - Cheers!

Just install the connectivity kit that came on the CD with the HP Prime. It will start by updating itself to the latest version. It will then offer to download the latest firmware and you'll be able to flash it to the HP Prime then.

If you don't have the CD then you can download the latest connectivity kit directly from here: http://ftp.ftp.hp.com/pub/calculators/Prime

The cable to use to connect your Prime to your PC is a straightforward microUSB cable that supports data transmission (some cheap cables advertised as "charging" cables lack the data lines and only transport the 5V DC).

Thanks GrsBanks,

When I click on the link ( http://ftp.ftp.hp.com/pub/calculators/Prime ) I receive the following message:

The DNS name does not exist.
Error Code: INET_E_RESOURCE_NOT_FOUND

What am I doing incorrect?

Thanks - Cheers!

Nothing, better take:ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/calculators/Prime/
He forgot to delete the http in front.

My bad. Apologies for that. Damn MS-Edge added the http:// and I didn't notice. Grrrrrrr….

Note that I believe the FTP protocol is being turned off completely end of March, so only direct links will work after that.

Will there be a place where we can get the link of current and past firmware?

Direct links to the files will still work, you just can't "browse" the directory like ftp allows.

You got us worried by saying "FTP protocol will be turned off altogether" because that would mean even direct ftp:// links wouldn't work any more. Smile

They will not function any more.

Code:
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/calculators/Prime/HP_Prime_Connectivity_Kit_20180212.exe will function

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/calculators/Prime/HP_Prime_Connectivity_Kit_20180212.exe will not

The FTP protocol support will be turned off as it is insecure. Note the first link uses http as the protocol. [EDIT] https will also work

Got it -- thanks for the clarification.

Wait a minute... If FTP is being turned off for being insecure, shouldn't unencrypted HTTP get the same treatment? Furthermore, if the files being served are digitally signed (I assume they are, at least for the executables), then the security of the transport layer is mostly irrelevant.

Either unencrypted HTTP will get the axe later on, or FTP is being disabled for being a royal pain and/or falling into disuse. Removing FTP just for being "insecure" while leaving unencrypted HTTP wide open suggests to me somebody either didn't think this through or just applied cargo cult security.

Just for reference, please state the correct direct link address. Thank you.

RE: Update HP Prime - Tim Wessman - 03-28-2018 09:56 PM

The correct direct link is a normal link to the exact file - with an exact file name. FTP can browse a directory and list content. HTML cannot.

I can't give you what the "direct link" is because it will be different for each file. For the past 2-3 times I've posted the "New Version" message on this forum I have been posting a direct link to the specific files directly.
