What computer are you reading this with?
My current home computer is a Lenovo desktop Ideacentre 720-18ASU...CPU is AMD Ryzen 5-1400, AMD R5 340 graphics card, 8 Gigs RAM, 1Terabyte HD. Benchmarks using the "IntelBurn" LINPACK program at 33.6 GFLOPS. (It would be the fastest computer in the world until June 1993...) Graphics card is slow but not a gamer so no problem there.

MacBook Pro 17" 2010 (Intel Dual Core). Still looking for a 2011 model with the quadcore processor, the last 17" model ever. Just replaced the hard disk with a 1TB SSD. No desktop computer in our home since decades, just notebooks.

RE: What computer are you reading this with?
my thinclient! Because if I can I use everything until it breaks (ask my bike.It just got 120€ of reparations).

Hp compaq nx 6110 (laptop). I estimate it is from 2004 or 2005 (I got it from the previous company I worked. No one wanted it, what a pity). 1 gb ram, xp, firefox, 40gb hd.

I am using it since a couple of years already. Preferred pc to program the 50g (notepad++ -> connex4x -> 50g -> run)

Then I have my win 10 pro with 8 (or 16 ?) gb of ram and 256gb ssd. Not used since May because, well, I did not have the need so far (I bought it for more intensive programming tasks, requiring eclipse to run for example, but it did not happen yet). I turn it on and off only for windows updates.

The 6110 is still super for light sites (like this or wiki) and programming / remote terminal. Once again, if possible (in my opinion) products should be used. Then I also have a couple of ibm thinkpad from the same period that are ready to work in the case.

On a samsung n130 (atom n170, 1gb of ram) I installed win 10 pro and I see that with old systems with no specialized drivers win 10 eats the CPU power only to draw windows. Anyway it is ok to run the hp prime.

For benchmarks and emember comparisons (especially with the new Ryzen and similar CPUs) please look here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/ or here https://www.reddit.com/r/intel/ or here https://www.reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace/ . Even better, here: https://www.reddit.com/r/homelab/ . Seeing people running home servers with 640 GB of RAM is impressive, then again I can barely use the 250 Kb of ram of the 50g.

edit1: tip from an IT person. Unless one is playing or doing multimedia editing, what is important since years is the amount of ram in a system that whatever CPU is powerful enough. Instead new programs, unfortunately, demands more and more ram because they are not that optimized. Especially web browsers combined with heavy javascript sites.

Wikis are great, Contribute :)

HP Pavilion Elite d5100t
This deskside computer was one that we gave to our son before he went off to college. That must have been in 2009, when it was factory loaded with Windows Vista Home Premium.

It has gotten a number of OS upgrades and now it's running Windows 10 Pro.

Hardware uses an Intel processor : Core2 Quad CPU Q9300 @ 2.50GHz
The video adapter is an NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT
RAM is 6 GBytes, which is usually enough.

RE: What computer are you reading this with?
The machine I'm using right now is my own build from early 2014, with an ASUS Z87 PRO motherboard, Intel i5-4670K, Crucial 2x8GB DDR3 and a GeForce GTX 770. My startup drive is a Crucial M500 480GB SSD and I currently have four Western Digital 8TB white label 5400rpm drives installed for bulk storage. My main laptop is a Lenovo Thinkpad T410 equipped with a SDR, and I have a Dell D630 laptop in the hardware closet that runs the webserver. The TV computer is an Intel NUC D34010WYK in a modified Akasa fanless heatsink enclosure. Including the wife's stuff and one hand-me-down potato for each kid, there are currently 10 PCs running on my network. My big switch is a D-Link DGS-1224T, and everything is on physical ethernet.

Depends where I am.
As of now, at work at sea, I'm using my Asus VivoStick with win10home 64-bit. 2GB RAM on an Intel Atom CPU @ 1,44GHz and a "whooping" 32GB SDD.

That's a lot of bulk! Are these configured in a RAID array, or do you really have that much data to store? Videos?

They are not configured in a RAID array. I have 16TB of storage in the computer, with a 16TB backup in two external USB3 enclosures. About half of my files are videos, while the other half are documents, software, etc. Just the complete MAME set by itself is about 2.5TB. I also have an extremely large reference library, and a commercial artwork portfolio which includes things like high resolution billboard designs. My drives are almost full at the moment, so I'll be buying another pair of 8TB drives in the near future.
